Iran Unveiled Photo Exhibition

Save the date for Iran Unveiled’s photo exhibition opening reception on Saturday, September 17th, 2016 at Kala Art Institute.

Come out and see this unique photo project, curated by San Francisco local Mahya Jaberiansari and co-curated by Arash Shirinbab. The collection allows you to experience the country up close and personal, through the lens of 9 Iranian photographers residing in Iran and America. Iran has one of the richest art heritages in world history and encompasses many disciplines including architecture, painting, pottery, calligraphy, metalworking and stonemasonry. But for far too long, the world has only seen Iran through the lens of politics, sanctions, and history leaving out the realities of its arts, life, people and places from the conversation altogether. This is why these 9 young artists have come together: to challenge and attempt to shift the conversation toward the realities of what Iran is as a country and disengage people from the misconstrued image of Iran in the media. It is clear that not all the realities of a society are pleasing; the mission of this project, however, is to reflect the side of Iran that has been missing from the mainstream media and dialogue. Please join us on September 17th, as we set foot on this journey—a walk through Iran, one photo at a time.
