About the Exhibition: The “Arabic: Language of Quran” exhibition is a follow up exhibition curated by Islamic Art Exhibit under a similar name in 2015. The inaugural exhibition was planned to be a group traveling exhibition and was held between April and June 2015 at South Bay Islamic Association in San Jose, Oakland Public Library Rockridge Branch in Oakland, Central Park Library in Santa Clara, and Kehilla Community Synagogue in Piedmont, California.

Co-curators of the new exhibition Nabeela Sajjad, Joan Jasper, and Arash Shirinbab worked with each other to judge and select among the existing collection of artworks, invite national and international artists to participate in the exhibition, and support the overall curation and installation process. In this exhibition each artist has taken a verse from the Quran and illustrates it through calligraphy, painting and other art forms. The artworks are in a variety of mediums from traditional calligraphy to digital media and ceramics and stained glass. The participating artists are selected from local, national, and international candidates with different styles including abstract, expressionism, traditional, and contemporary. The new exhibition is hosted by San Francisco Main Public Library and is held on January 16 to March 20, 2016 at the Skylight Gallery Exhibit Area (6th floor) of this library.

Arash Shirinbab has been also in charge of providing calligraphic material for the “Islamic Calligraphy Now”, featuring extraordinary calligraphy works of contemporary Muslims around the world which will be represented digitally at the library during the “Arabic: Language of Quran” exhibition.
