Call to Artists: Arabic, Language of Quran

We are pleased to announce that Ziya Art Center is sponsoring Islamic Art Exhibit's exhibition to be held at the San Fransico Public Library from Jan. 16 to March 20, 2016. Arash Shirinbab will be co-curating and selecting the artworks with Joan Jasper, Curator of the San Fransico Public Library and Nabeela Sajjad, Director of Islamic Art Exhibit.

This is a great opportunity for Muslim artists to show diversity of Islamic Art as well as diverse origins of the participating artists. Artists are invited to submit artworks. Please carefully read the following instructions to participate in this exhibit as there are certain size limitations for artwork.

  • Theme: "Arabic; the Language of Quran"

  • Submissions will be by emailing digital images of artwork to islamicartexhibit@gmail.com by October 1st, 2015.

  • No Submission Fee.

  • Email should include:

Name of Artist

Contact information: Home address, phone #, email address

Title of artwork, dimensions (length, width, height), (weight limit is 5 lbs or less)

Digital images (jpeg) with name of the image as title and dimensions of the artwork (e.g. Purity-16x20)

Submissions: 2 only.

  • Since the exhibit gallery consists of glass display cases (images attached), the size of the artwork is limited to fit inside the cases. I am attaching the case sizes to give artists an idea of display space.

Flat cases (attachment flat case)

Each case: Display area inside the Flat Case: 63x 27 x 9.5 inches

Sloped cases (attachment sloped case)

Each case: Display area inside the Sloped Case: 63x 25 x 8.5 inches

17 inches high at the back without the sloped insert.

Long case (attachment IMG2820) 95x 17.5 x 9.5 inches

  • Maximum Vertical height can either be15 or 22 or 24 inches or less.

  • Maximum Horizontal width is 24 inches.

  • Artwork (photography, calligraphy etc) should not be framed (framing takes more space) but can be matted.

  • Ceramic, glass or other object art can be displayed as long as they are able to fit inside the cases.

We will let the artists know if their artwork is accepted by October 10. And the accepted artwork will need to be delivered by October 25.

Since there is limited space for the display we will try to make sure that the accepted artwork (at least one artwork for each artist) is exhibited but it cannot be guaranteed.

Artist Reception will be on Saturday, January 16, 2016. (Time TBA) at San Francisco Public Library
