Program Timeline:

  • 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.: Persian carpet exhibition of outstanding collections from Mr. Jazayerian and Mrs. Khanchi; some carpets available for sale; Carpet design samples by Mohsen Shafie Bafti and Safieh Hassani

  • 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Hands-on carpet workshop for kids with Farzaneh Faridmoayer

  • 1 – 3 p.m.: Screening “The Wind Carpet” film by Kamal Tabrizi

  • 3 – 4 p.m.: Free carpet appraisal by Adib Persian Rug Co.

  • 4 – 4:30 p.m.: Illustrated Presentation on introduction to Persian carpet by Ray Adib

  • 5 – 6 p.m.: “Design and Pattern in Persian Carpets” workshop with Carol Bier*, visiting scholar at GTU and former Curator at The Textile Museum in Washington, DC

Program Details:

  • Suggested Donation for the whole program: $15 adults; $10 students & kids; $25 family of three or more

  • This event is in English and open to the public.

  • Limited free parking is available on site; The Center is near the 12th St. BART station.

* Carol Bier is Visiting Scholar with the Center for Islamic Studies at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley CA. From 1984 to 2001 she served as Curator for Eastern Hemisphere Collections at The Textile Museum in Washington, DC, and has been Research Associate there since 2001. She is author of The Persian Velvets at Rosenborg, published in Copenhagen in 1995, and contributing author/editor of Woven from the Soul, Spun from the Heart: Textile Arts of Safavid and Qajar Iran, published by The Textile Museum in 1986. For many years she was editor of The Textile Museum Journal and is a past President of the Textile Society of America.
