Calligraphy workshop and exhibition. "Timeless Words" at the University of Toronto

Ziya is excited to announce its calligraphy workshop and exhibition called "Timeless Words" by Arash Shirinbab at the University of Toronto on Friday, Oct. 24 in partnership with the Muslim Students' Association.

Join us on October 24, 2014 for a Hands-on introduction workshop to Arabic calligraphy and Thuluth script with traditional bamboo or reed pen and ink, calligraphy exhibition, and film screening on the history of Islamic calligraphy, the art of penmanship in Middle Eastern culture, and the aesthetic values of words in Islamic art. The workshop will be facilitated by Arash Shirinbab.

Traditional Islamic art and particularly Arabic-Persian Calligraphy has been one of Shirinbab’s passions since the age of 11 in after school art classes. After dabbling in various painting classes and trying different calligraphy styles for over 14 years, he engaged in serious study of classical calligraphy styles including Thuluth and Kufic under masters of the Iranian Calligraphists Association. Shirinbab has participated in over 50 exhibitions in galleries and museums in the US, Spain, Italy, Poland, and Iran, including Associazione Culturale Day One in Italy, San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild in California, Triton Museum of Art in California, and Kunsthaus-Berlin-Marbella Museum in Spain. Among Shirinbab’s awards are the 1st Place and Best of Show Award for the 50 Shades of Gray competition by Focus Point & Shape Gallery, and Special Merit Award for the 3rd Annual International Animals Art competition by Light Space & Time Gallery.
