Trees of Fall Exhibition

On April 26, Islamic Cultural Center in partnership with Ziya Art Center presented Arash Shirinbab’s Solo Exhibition, titled "Trees of Fall" alog with a calligraphy workshop by this local calligrapher/ artist.

The event was a fruitful evening of viewing calligraphy demonstration from Arabic-Persian (Islamic) tradition, experiencing and practicing it in a hands-on workshop, and viewing the exhibit of some of the best traditional and non-traditional calligraphy artworks from the masters along with Shirinbab’s newest abstract tree-shape calligraphy pieces.

During the workshop, Shirinbab gave a presentation about the history of Islamic calligraphy, the tools and equipment used for this traditional art, and different styles of Arabic-Persian calligraphy. Then he gave instruction and participants practiced the basic movements of calligraphy and could inscribe a sentence to take it with them in a Thuluth calligraphy style.

At the end of the session they visited the Shirinbab’s exhibit which consisted his large format calligraphy arts. These artworks were illustrating several Persian poems and one Italian poem about trees and plants with abstract calligraphy letters and shapes. The compositions and usage of letters in these arts were very contemporary and unique while the presence of calligraphy would make them attached to a long lasting tradition.
