OVERVIEW AND BACKGROUND

“Calligraphies in Conversation” encompasses an annual group exhibition and a series of public venues including calligraphy demonstrations, workshops, and masterclasses focusing on endorsing the appreciation of traditional calligraphy in hands-on and tangible manner. The emphasis of this program is initiating a meaningful conversation between different calligraphy traditions, scripts, and cultures.

This program builds on the success of our inaugural Calligraphies in Conversation exhibitions that Ziya Art Center led in partnership with Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California (ICCNC) and Oakland Asian Cultural Center (OACC) in Spring 2014 and Fall 2015 where over 200 artworks from around the world were exhibited at these two locations in Oakland, California, USA.
